Locally, there were showers yesterday morning. More than 10 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over parts of the New Territories. There were sunny periods during the day. Temperatures over the territory generally rose to around 33 degrees. The trough of low pressure is expected to weaken, and the weather will be generally fine over the coastal areas of Guangdong in the next couple of days.

Besides, the area of low pressure to the east of the Philippines intensified into a tropical depression yesterday and was named Bailu. At 11 p.m. last night, Bailu was centred about 1340 kilometres southeast of Gaoxiong. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 14 kilometres per hour across the western North Pacific towards the vicinity of Taiwan.

range of fluctuation of the background radiation level in
Hong Kong (see Note). The average dose rates measured at the
radiation monitoring stations over various parts of the
territory were as follows :

Note
  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong in the past, the hourly mean ambient gamma radiation dose rate may vary between 0.06 and 0.3 microsievert per hour. (1 microsievert = 0.000001 sievert = 0.001 millisievert)
  2. Temporal variations are generally caused by changes in meteorological conditions such as rainfall, wind and barometric pressure.
  3. Spatial variations are generally caused by differences in the radioactive content of local rock and soil.
  4. The data displayed is provisional. Only limited data validation has been carried out.
