At 6 a.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 27 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 95 per cent.

Announcement on Localised Heavy Rain: More than 70 millimetres of rainfall were recorded in Shek Kwu Chau in Islands District, Wan Chai District and Central and Western District of Hong Kong Island in the past 1 hour ending at 6:05 a.m. and may cause serious flooding.

The Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal has been issued.
The Thunderstorm Warning has been issued. It will remain effective until 7:45 a.m. today. Occasional thunderstorms are expected to occur over Hong Kong.

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Showers are affecting the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea.

At 5 a.m., Severe Typhoon Soulik was centred about 920 kilometres southeast of Kagoshima. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 15 kilometres per hour across the western North Pacific.

Weather forecast for today

Mainly cloudy with occasional showers and thunderstorms. Showers will be heavy at first. Sunny intervals in the afternoon. The maximum temperature will be about 31 degrees. Light to moderate southwesterly winds.

Outlook : Sunny periods and a few showers in the next couple of days.
